Gum Hyperplasia

Gum hyperplasia is quite common in patients who have been on phenytoin on a long term basis for epilepsy. Following are few causes we need to look for when confronted with gum hyperplasia.

1 Phenytoin , (Phenobarbitone less common)

2 Infections/infalmmation ( Gingivitis )

3 Leukaemia

4 Pregnancy

5 Vitamin C deficiency

6 Drugs – Nifedipine , Amlodipine , Verapamil , Cyclosporine

7 Paraneoplastic disorder
